Run the London Marathon

The London Marathon is Action on Pre-eclampsia’s biggest fundraising event of the year and ensures that we can continue to offer our support to those affected by pre-eclampsia as well as funding vital training for all who care for pregnant women.

When you run with APEC, you don't just run for a charity, you are now part of a whole new running community, all working towards the same goal, all supporting each other through this amazing journey.

APEC is first class at providing support and facilitating a sense of community leading up to, and during the marathon. They make every effort to connect runners. I’ve supported charities before, but APEC does it best. Because of APEC I had an amazing time and it was so cool to see APEC represented on the course.

So proud to have done what I set out to do. I said in my application that I hoped running the marathon might give me ‘closure’ on some of the fear I’d felt when I had pre eclampsia. What I didn’t realise that every run, every single step, would be healing. Being able to do this was a gift and one I’m so grateful for. A day I’ll remember with huge pride and love for the rest of my life.

The money raised by the 2023 runners has enabled the charity to expand by taking on a new member of the team – Yazmin recently  joined us as Development assistant, supporting the education officer and also our amazing fundraisers. Our focus this year is to increase our services across the board and push awareness of the charity and of the symptoms and signs of pre-eclampsia. We have particularly focused on promoting our work online through social media and youtube.

The 2022 Runners have been instrumental in providing the money needed for  updating our educational online resources and increasing our study days going into 2023. Their sponsorship will finance the implementation of a new online 14 module course for healthcare professionals as well as supplementing core costs due to lost revenue from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 2021 runners helped enormously to keep the charity afloat during the difficult times following the Covid lockdowns and huge loss of income. We are enormously grateful to them for raising nearly £50,000, enabling us to keep our helpline open during longer hours, our staff team still working and instrumental in the setting up of the new WhatsApp ‘drop in; weekly support group for partners.

The 2019 and 2020 runners funded an awareness campaign. A wallet sized ‘keep me’ booklet which was distributed to  pregnant women through the Emma’s Diary* packs. These are given out FREE during pregnancy. Without our London Marathon team, this project would have not been possible. Thank you so much for helping us to:

  • Raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of pre-eclampsia
  • Tell women and families when and where to seek help and advice

We provide our wonderful runners with:

  • Support via email, telephone and social media, Facebook group
  • Personalised running vest and cosy training hoodie for those winter runs
  • Personalised Fundraising pack
  • Cheering and support on race day!
