Before Covid, APEC trustees had planned some governance changes to make sure the charity was run in the best possible way. With the pandemic we adjusted our plans and grew the Board. Trustees have now decided to revert to the original plan.

This involves shrinking the Board and ensuring it is concentrating on strategic matters. There will then be two panels, A Family Advisory Panel and a Clinical, Research and Education Advisory Board where much of the detailed work will take place.

The Board and panels will meet 3/4 times a year online and join together once a year for a wider strategic meeting.

We are now looking for people to join these panels which will be a hybrid of Board Trustees and Panel Members.

You can help us reduce the impact of PET by joining one of our panels.

With patients (and their families) at the heart of our charity the Family Advisory Panel will advise the board and the wider charity on fundraising ideas and ensuring that parent voices are heard. If you have lived experience of pre-eclampsia we’d like to hear from you and this can include being a partner or close relative, having had a bereavement or a happier outcome. Your experience will influence what we do. This panel will be chaired by a patient and it will be looking at developing parent/public facing materials (to promote improved public knowledge of PET and modern plans of care), giving the patient voice in trials (a vital part of any trial design) and reviewing how we can optimise fundraising.

The Clinical, Research and Education Advisory Panel will support the charity in giving the wisest/widest possible voice to the varied professionals supporting patients, so we are looking especially for midwives (at all levels in their careers), early career researchers, resident doctors, basic scientists, physicians and obstetricians to give us the breadth to support the depth that is already on the board. We need you to be our eyes and ears, supporting our research and educational offerings. You will be asked to help in designing our study days, support in delivering the study days (if you feel confident), developing our social media resource,

If you are interested in joining, please fill in the form below. If you would like more information please contact Marcus on ceo@apec.org.uk

We anticipate holding discussions in the new year.

These changes mean that some people will step away from the board and we are hugely grateful to Dr Louise Webster, Dr Carol Lole-Harris, Dr Sarah Winfield and Dr Kim Turner for their service to the board and look forward to their continuing involvement in the panels.

Please do get involved, you don’t need board experience, your personal journey is all that is needed.
